ABSTRACT

Eukaryotic cells are characterized by their multiple compartmentalized genomes: nuclear and mitochondrial genomes in animals; nuclear, mitochondrial, and the plastid genomes in plants. Without knowing more than this, the problem of integration of the expression of these genomes, i.e., intergenomic integration, already seems important, but the extent of interdependence of these multiple genomes is greater than coexistence alone suggests.
