ABSTRACT

For interspecific hybridization in various crops, in addition to sexual hybridization through embryo rescue and somatic hybridization by protoplast fusion, intraovarian pollination and in vitro fertilization techniques can be used to produce hybrids in incompatible crosses. The technique of in vitro pollination/ fertilization involves growing unpollinated ovaries/flowers/ovules on synthetic media, and then sprinkling pollen over them, or onto the cut end of the style.
