ABSTRACT

Perhaps the largest impact of global warming on mankind will be through its effects on water resources and water availability. Many studies have investigated potential changes in water balance and hydrological regime, but rather fewer have examined in a systematic or quantitative way the effects of these changes on the users of water. The aim of this paper is to outline the institutional, economic and social effects of changes in water resources, summarising potential areas of impact and illustrating them with examples from the literature.
