ABSTRACT

The term “antiphospholipid (aPL) antibodies” [47] will be used to describe antibodies detected by any one of the following tests: the anticardiolipin ELISA test [40], the lupus anticoagulant test [108], and standard tests for syphilis [47]. Currently, there are questions raised by some investigators as to whether these tests truly detect antibodies specific for phospholipids [75, 110], and this issue will be addressed in this review.
