ABSTRACT

We show how a synergetic computer recovers patterned structure from motion, in this case point light displays created by complex human movements (after Johansson). A procedure is introduced to ‘connect the dots’, that is, it determines which points belong to the same extremity. By using order parameters or collective variables that characterize time-independent patterns, the network identifies and discriminates complicated dynamic patterns even when embedded in noise.
