ABSTRACT

MR imaging was performed in 50 HIV seropositive and 140 AIDS patients, using T1 and T2 weighted spin-echo sequences. The appearance of the white matter was evaluated in each case. Pathologic changes in CNS white matter are usually due to viral encephalitis, in most cases to HIV, although CMV, herpes and others may be implicated. Areas of hypersignal are demonstrated on T2-weighted sequences, especially in the centrum semiovale, and occasionally in the internal capsules, brain stem and cerebellum. More... »
