ABSTRACT

Current concepts of the nature and significance of intercellular signals between plants and microbes have evolved almost entirely from work on Rhizobium and Agrobacterium. The relationship between these bacteria and plants is of a highly specialised nature, and progress along the developmental pathway or life cycle of the microbe involves specific structural changes in the plant, and in the case of Agrobacterium, genetic changes also. It is not surprising therefore that interorganismal regulatory systems have evolved which control gene expression in both partners in the interactions. More... »
