ABSTRACT

Extreme prolate deformations (β2≥0.35) have been observed1–4 in the neutron deficient strontium isotopes. These nuclei are among the most deformed in the mass 80 region. Recently, detailed spectroscopic work has been completed on 79–81Sr (ref. 2–4). Theoretical work predicting changes in deformations and collectivity as a function of neutron number has been carried out in ref. 5. The work discussed in this contribution was initiated to study 78Sr and to compare the observed rotational structure with other Sr isotopes as one moves closer to the N=Z line. More... »
