ABSTRACT

New peroxisomes form by the division of preexisting peroxisomes after the posttranslational import of newly-synthesized matrix, core and membrane proteins. This process differs from the biogenesis of mitochondria and chloroplasts in that most peroxisomal proteins are synthesized at their final sizes, without cleavable targeting peptides.
