ABSTRACT

Management of some diseases, especially those with righ ventricular (RV) repercussion such as pulmonary hypertension or ischemia, requires an accurate assessment of RV performance, i.e. precise measurement of RV volumes. Applicability of the three existing methods (contrast angiography, nuclear technique and echocardiography) to critically ill patients is generally difficult because these techniques require expensive, cumbersome and not always movable imaging systems.
