ABSTRACT

The quantification of juvenile hormones is a major aim of invertebrate endocrinology. For a long time, the “galleria wax test” was the only way of quantifying juvenile hormone activity [1]. More recently, large efforts have been devoted to the development of mass spectography [2,3] and radioimmunoassays [4, 5] (RIA). However, all approaches encountered difficulties because of the hydrophobic properties of JHs. It is only recently that reliable results were obtained. RIA is now applicable to any kind of biological material and can be used for routine assays; it is as accurate as ecdysteroids RIAs, provided that validated protocols are strictly followed.
