ABSTRACT

Monoclonal antibodies are proving to be very powerful tools for the analysis of the HLA-D region products. Serological studies of the Seventh Workshop identified a series of antigens which showed a close but not perfect relationship with the D locus antigens defined by MLC (1). Even at this stage the lack of complete agreement between the two types of assay indicated that the region would prove complex, with more than one locus involved. This was supported by serological studies by Tosi et al. which indicated the presence of another locus they called DC [2]. At present, three D region Loci are clearly defined by MLC, PLT and serology, while DNA studies, which have to date identified six D region α chains and seven ß chains, indicate even greater complexity, as discussed by W. F. Bodmer in this volume (The HLA System 1984). More... »

28 schema:description Monoclonal antibodies are proving to be very powerful tools for the analysis of the HLA-D region products.
