The interest in zooplankton populations in upwelling areas is not very new, but it has been increasing during the last ten years. The development of pelagic and demersal fisheries in these areas is one of the prime reasons for this interest, because it is essential to know the possibilities and limits for exploitation of different populations of commercial interest.
