ABSTRACT

This paper presents a new concept of highly sensitive infrared image sensors. The proposed scheme uses a piezoelectric actuator to shift the sensor and signal processing techniques. The spatially differentiated image from the sensor output can be successfully reconstructed to the original image using signal processing techniques. The quality of the reconstruction is improved by the chip shift operation of X and Y directions. Another important technique to achieve high sensitivity is the in-pixel signal amplification using a charge transfer. The in-pixel amplification up to the gain of 4 is demonstrated by an experiment.
