ABSTRACT

There is consensus that selective cox inhibitors inhibit fracture healing in animal experiments. There is also very good evidence that 1 week of cox-inhibitor treatment greatly reduces the risk of ectopic bone formation after hip surgery in humans. Still, cox inhibitors are commonly used for postoperative pain relief. This is obviously because clinical experience tells us that it works well, with few problems. This is a paradox. Are the animal fracture data irrelevant for humans? More... »
