ABSTRACT

Laser angioplasty holds the promise to serve as an alternative to balloon angioplasty because it can remove the obstructing atheroma by vaporization rather than by fracturing the plaque (1,2). In the search for the optimum laser system we have shown a preference for pulsed lasers which are giving rise to a more precise and predictable ablation of cardiovascular tissues than continuous-wave lasers (4).
