ABSTRACTCurrently available detachable balloons are round or spherical. However, intracranial aneurysms are frequently more complex in shape, and two or more balloons may be necessary to embolize them ideally. We developed all-silicone detachable balloons with different shapes and sizes. Our balloons have self-sealing valves (with or without collars) and detach with simple traction. After inflation, round, spherical and our unique dumbbell, “snowman” and curved types are available. Our differently shaped balloons may be useful for embolization of complex aneurysms. In selected cases, we may be able to avoid more complicated procedures, such as the double balloon technique. More... »
