ABSTRACT

Plastids fulfill a number of essential functions, including photosynthesis, assimilation of nitrogen and sulfur, synthesis of amino acids, fatty acids, and many secondary metabolites. Pure computation-based predictions are limited in predicting plastid proteomes, and proteomic and especially subcellular proteomics studies are essential to provide an in-depth evaluation of the plastid proteome. The aim of this chapter was to highlight some of the current data, generated by plastids proteomics, in terms of functions, compartmentation, and evolution of this organelle. More... »
