ABSTRACT

We retrospectively reviewed the MEG data of one patient with post traumatic epilepsy, in which we observed unifocal periodic lateralized epileptiform discharges (PLEDs) during offline analysis which was evoked by only auditory stimuli. The patient underwent evaluation of her epilepsy including medical history, long-term video-EEG monitoring and structural MRI at University Sains Malaysia Hospital (USMH), Kelantan, Malaysia. The ictal onset zone of this patient was determined clinically by considering the results of the evaluation prior to obtaining the MEG. In all routine EEGs, there had neither PLEDs like findings nor interictal spike. We concluded that unifocal PLEDs can localize the ictal onset zone in epilepsy patient which can be detected by MEG but not in EEG and careful observation is highly recommended during recording of MEG which might be helpful for the surgical treatment of epilepsy patient.
