ABSTRACT

From the quantum-mechanical point of view optically pumped molecular lasers can be considered as a coupled three-level system interacting with applied radiation fields. Many phenomena typical of saturation and nonlinear spectroscopy were predicted and experimentally observed (1). In this paper we report a new effect which is the consequence of the standing wave saturation of the pump transition in optically pumped FIR molecular laser. The theoretical model considers a three-level system composed of a IR pump transition, 2–0, center frequency ω2 coupled to a FIR transition 0–1, center frequency ω1, via the common level, 0 (fig. 1 and ref.2).
