ABSTRACT

In this chapter we will review indications for liver PET/MRI, including the evaluation of metastatic disease, characterization of hepatocellular carcinoma and staging of cholangiocarcinoma. We review the different pulse sequences used in liver imaging, and discuss how motion correction techniques can be used to improve image quality and overcome some of the limitations of the simultaneous acquisition. In particular we highlight the role of hepatobiliary agents in the setting of PET/MRI for both its high sensitivity of liver metastases as well as the ability to acquire navigated images during end expiration.
