ABSTRACT

The modularity of stems at the head-neck junction has certain advantages as the decrease of implant stock, the simplification of revision (option to retain the stem and perform head exchange), adaptation of leg length and offset, and use of alternative bearing options [1]. The main disadvantages however are the increase in fretting and crevice corrosion at the taper junction [2, 3]. Their contribution to implant failure is now being increasingly recognized [4].
