ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors provide a theoretical foundation, along with qualitative and quantitative evidence, to demonstrate the high impact of an integrated curriculum partnership between a community youth center and its nearest neighbor a large, public university. College students engaging the community, in multiple semesters taking different courses, helped elementary school community youth build a foundation for success. University students found that community engagement enhances their appreciation for collective actions in advancing social change, as well as, their knowledge and necessary skills in being an integral part of the change process.
