ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the twenty-first century HIV/AIDS epidemic in African American communities, specifically among HIV-Positive African American women in the nine Southern states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. HIV/AIDS has reached epic proportions, and is a major health crisis for African American women residing in the Deep South. This chapter examines many of the major prevention, intervention, advocacy, and care disparities facing HIV-Positive African American women, as well as suggesting solutions to those challenges.
