ABSTRACT

The diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma is based on pathology. Nevertheless, imaging plays a central role for tumor staging as well as for the assessment of locoregional and distant extension. Tumor spread is very different from that in other liver tumors, especially hepatocellular carcinoma. Parenchymal, vascular, perineural, nodal, and distant extension must be accurately assessed because it has significant prognostic value. Computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provide essential information, while positron emission tomography (PET) can be useful in selected cases. More... »
