ABSTRACT

Dual modes have been developed to combine the advantages of volume and pressure ventilation, which are, respectively, stability of tidal volume and comfort with the ability to counterbalance air leaks. However, clinical studies comparing these new modes to fixed pressure support have reported inconsistent results, possibly due to the different algorithms and circuit configurations of the ventilators used for comparisons.
