ABSTRACT

For patients with neuromuscular disorders, a noninvasive approach to the management of bronchial secretions, based on a combination of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation and expiratory muscle aid, may result in a reduced need for endotracheal intubation and/or tracheostomy. In addition, preventive application of assisted coughing techniques after extubation may avert the need for reintubation and shorten the intensive care unit stay. More... »
