ABSTRACT

Musculoskeletal concerns account for up to 30 % of patient encounters within family medicine. Youth sport participation continues to increase nationwide with over 30 million youth and teens participating [1]. High school athletics alone accounts for over two million injuries, half a million physician visits, and 30,000 hospitalizations annually [2]. Growing sports specializations within adolescents has led to an increase in overuse injuries; accounting for half of all adolescent injuries [1]. Adults are not immune to athletic injuries, as weekend warriors suffer numerous injuries. Weekend warriors commonly suffer ankle injuries, knee injuries, dislocations, and overuse injuries in attempts to stay active. More... »
