ABSTRACT

Although scattering from 4He is the most widely used analyzer in neutron polarization studies, above 12 MeV there is still sufficient uncertainty in the analyzing power to prohibit very accurate neutron polarization determinations. Because such information is required for polarization transfer studies at our laboratory, we have obtained precise analyzing power angular distributions for 4He( \documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\overrightarrow n $$\end{document} ,n)4He at 14.0 and 17.1 MeV. We have also made a new R-matrix analysis of the n + 4He system1). This paper will discuss the experimental results and compare them to various phase shift predictions. More... »
