ABSTRACT

The statistical model as developed by Ericson1), Brink and Stephen2) has been applied successfully to many cases, where either low-spin particles interact or the reaction mechanism is known from other sources. In most cases however, this method displays a severe ambiguity between the “number of effectively contributing channels N” and the “direct interaction contribution yD”.This ambiguity might be removed by the additional measurement of the analyzing power in a polarization experiment.
