ABSTRACT

Compound nuclear (CN) fluctuations in the cross section σ(E,θ) are frequently analyzed by writing σ(E,θ) as a sum of “basic cross sections” σα(E,θ), where a labels channel spins.1) However, the assumptions underlying this method may be invalid for projectiles with spin; moreover, the formalism does not generalize to analyzing powers.
