ABSTRACT

Climbing is one of the fastest growing sports world-wide. As the sport continues to grow and climbers are more frequently seen in orthopedic clinics it is important to understand the injuries associated with climbing. The majority of injuries are not from falls but from overuse and over training and most commonly occur in the upper extremities. Injuries can be categorized into acute and chronic. This chapter will cover both the acute and chronic injuries associated with climbing. We will provide a context for how these injuries occur for those not familiar with the sport and discuss the treatment options. More... »
