ABSTRACT

Gastric cancer is the third leading cause of death worldwide. There have been geographical differences in incidence, disease extent, treatment pattern, and prognosis. Early diagnosis of gastric cancer is the major determinant of the prognosis. In early gastric cancer, endoscopic treatment is one of the treatment options. In resectable gastric cancer, curative surgery with good quality including D2 lymph node dissection is of utmost importance. The adjuvant treatment further increases the cure rate of resected gastric cancer. In advanced gastric cancer, systemic treatment including cytotoxic agents and targeted agents confers the benefit to the patients with good performance status in terms of prolongation of survival and improvement of quality of life. With advances in science, a more detailed biology of gastric cancer is being uncovered. This knowledge makes it possible to develop more personalized treatments for gastric cancer. More... »
