ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes two relatively new ion channelopathies, Andersen-Tawil and Timothy syndromes. Both disorders are pleiotropic in nature, with multiple clinical manifestations outside the cardiovascular system. While both Andersen-Tawil and Timothy syndromes are disorders of ventricular repolarization, their unique clinical phenotype distinguishes them from the traditional forms of long QT syndrome (LQTS). The degree of QT prolongation in each disorder is directly related to the contribution of the disordered ion channel to the various phases of the cardiac action potential. This chapter discusses the most recent genetic, cellular, and clinical data underlying these unique ion channelopathies. More... »

35 schema:description This chapter summarizes two relatively new ion channelopathies, Andersen-Tawil and Timothy syndromes.
