ABSTRACT

Primary Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) is a debilitating systemic autoimmune disorder. In this chapter, SS in China was introduced. The prevalence of SS was 0.77% by Copenhagen criterion, and more than 62% of the patients were delayed or misdiagnosed in this country. The novel autoantibodies were used routinely in diagnosis of SS in some hospitals, such as anti-a(alpha)-fodrin and anti-M3 receptor (M3R). Treatment of SS is much the same as that in Western countries, including corticosteroid and immunosuppressant. Herbs are also applied by rheumatologists practicing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).
