ABSTRACT

We study lump-like solutions of the S 2 sigma model and of the corresponding Skyrme models in (2+1) dimensions. We show that the pure S 2 model possesses conserved quantities that makes it quasi-integrable in the geodesic approximation. We also show that for some choices of the potential the Skyrme models have stable lump-like solutions that in the head-on collisions scatter at 90° to the direction of their approach while for some other ones form bound states of such lumps.
