ABSTRACT

The increase of critical current is a challenge to complete in order to use high Tc superconductors ceramics. The small correlation distances between superconducting carriers in these materials (Gallagher et al., 1987) have promoted interest in lattice defects as possible pinning centers for vortices. Among defects, dislocations have the same cylindrical symmetry as vortices so that an efficient pinning is expected for dislocation lying along the same crystallographic direction as the axis of the vortice. In this context, high critical currents reported in thin films of YBaCuO have been associated to “screw dislocations” elongated along the c axis. Furthermore, an increase in the pinning strength has been measured in plastically deformed materials (Kramer et al., 1990, Zheng et al., 1992, Selvamanickam et al., 1993 a, b). More... »
