It is shown that 1\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$ I(\rho i;pi) \leqslant \sum\limits_{i = 1}^M {pi} I(\rho i) + I_0 $$\end{document} where I(ρi; pi) is the mutual information transmitted in an M-ary quantum optical communications system that uses the signal ρi for the letter i and transmits this letter with prior probability pi; I((ρi) is the information of the density matrix ρi; and I0 is an information related to the use of signals with different average number of photons, for different letters.
