ABSTRACT

In 1979 we began field tests of the hypothesis that predation on larvae and juveniles controls benthic community structure and dynamics. We picked an easily accessible intertidal community of low diversity, the Skagit flats in northern Puget Sound, for our experiments (Gallagher et al., 1983). We also developed serological methods to document and quantify predation on larvae and juveniles.
