ABSTRACT

Among the enzymes of the kynurenine pathway in brain, the presence of the following five enzymes has been reported: IDO (Gál, 1974), kynurenine 3-monooxygenase (Battie and Verity, 1981), kynureninase (Kawai et al., 1988), 3-OHAADO (Foster et al., 1986) and QPRT (Foster et al., 1985)*. The reported specific activity of rat brain mitochondrial kynurenine 3-monooxygenase is rather higher than that of liver. We have now reexamined this enzyme activity in rat brain mitochondria by using a new, highly sensitive assay method (HPLC-ECD). The enzyme activity of rat brain mitochondria is lower than that of liver mitochondria. More... »
