ABSTRACT

Inflammatory reactions in the mucosal membranes are often mediated by antibodies of IgE and IgG isotypes. These antibodies work in concert with cells such as granulocytes, mononuclear cells, mast cells and goblet cells (1). The immunological regulation of the antibody formation by T cells and their products has been extensively studied and subsequently established (2). Whether similar regulation of the non-immunological cellular counterparts may occur is still an open question. During parasite infection experimental studies have provided evidence of a T cell triggering of the development of mast cells and goblet cells (3).
