ABSTRACT

Heterogeneous processes, responsive to both the abundance and quality of suspended particles, are of major importance in the chemistry of estuarine waters (Burton and Liss, 1976). The low salinity region of an estuary is often an area of particularly high chemical and biological activity (Morris et al., 1978, 1982a) and high turbidity can be a major contributory factor (Morris et al., 1982b). Studies at IMER of the physical and chemical characteristics of estuarine suspended particulates are aimed at resolving the complex heterogenous chemical and biological interactions in estuaries.
