ABSTRACT

Compared to the organ in situ in all isolated cell-free perfused kidney preparations so far described tubular net sodium transport is considerably reduced (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Since the active tubular transport of sodium is a basic function of the mammalian kidney a number of other dysfunctions of isolated kidneys may be caused by the reduced rate of sodium transport. 32 schema:description Compared to the organ in situ in all isolated cell-free perfused kidney preparations so far described tubular net sodium transport is considerably reduced (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). Since the active tubular transport of sodium is a basic function of the mammalian kidney a number of other dysfunctions of isolated kidneys may be caused by the reduced rate of sodium transport.
