ABSTRACT

When a valence electron of an atom is excited in an orbit with high principal quantum number and therefore far from the ionic core, the energy levels of the atom can simply be described by the Rydberg formula. This is the reason why atoms in these highly excited states are often called Rydberg atoms. More... »

24 schema:description When a valence electron of an atom is excited in an orbit with high principal quantum number and therefore far from the ionic core, the energy levels of the atom can simply be described by the Rydberg formula. This is the reason why atoms in these highly excited states are often called Rydberg atoms.
