ABSTRACT

The concept of a hypothetical role of plasmatic coagulation and fibrinolysis in the genesis of glomerulonephritis (GN) is primarily based on the observation that the course of some, but not all, experimental models of GN is substantially altered by heparin or dicumarol (1, 2, 3). Although the evidence for involvement of plasmatic coagulation and fibrinolytic systems in patients with acute GN (e.g. poststreptococcal GN) is convincing, well documented evidence for their involvement in chronic idiopathic GN is scarce or absent. The controversy is not clarified by the observation that anticoagulation has no convincing effect on the course of several forms of idiopathic GN in controlled trials. More... »
