ABSTRACT

In the course of experiments designed to investigate the process of germinal centre formation, it was found that the lymphoid tissues of mice kept in a high zone tolerance regime to either HSA or lysozyme appeared to be abnormal in many ways (l). The abnormalities affected in particular the so-called thymus-independent zones of the lymphoid organs (2,3), namely, the primary nodules and the medulla in the lymph nodes, the red pulp and the perifollicular area in the spleen. It was then considered necessary to establish a base line of the morphology of the lymphoid tissues from mice receiving repeated injections of either antigen from birth and correlate it with the animals’ immunological capacity beyond their known inability to respond to the tolerogenic antigen.
