ABSTRACT

We consider a Jahn-Teller (JT) impurity ion with a doublet electronic ground state of Eg-symmetry at a lattice site of cubic symmetry and investigate the critical enhancement of the local JT-effect caused by the vibronic coupling to the soft mode of a structural phase transition of the host crystal.
