ABSTRACT

This report describes the development, scale-up, and economic characterization of an immobilized enzyme system for the hydrolysis of previously thinned cornstarch to high glucose syrups. The results of these studies indicate that enzymes can be successfully immobilized on porous inorganic ceramic Supports, The results also indicate that an immobilized glucoamylase column can be successfully operated at 40°C without bacterial contamination. It was also found that if contamination does occur, resanitization is achievable with little difficulty. The economic evaluation presented in this report was calculated based on the actual scale-up data presented. More... »
