ABSTRACT

Abnormalities of the skin vary considerably among the several rheumatic illnesses and even within single diagnostic categories. As a result, systematic studies of the immunodermatopathology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), progressive systemic sclerosis (PSS), dermatomyositis (DM), relapsing polychondritis (RP), and other illnesses are not generally available. What follows is a review of the relationship of the cutaneous to the noncutaneous clinical manifestations of several illnesses, the clinical cutaneous manifestations, the known dermatopathology and immunodermatopathology, including cutaneous cellular hypersensitivity, and the current avenues of research in these illnesses. The approach is oriented to specified diagnoses, but we understand that overlap among diagnoses is frequent. More... »
