AUTHORS ABSTRACTWe can imagine altering the genetic potential of an organism by deleting or introducing structural genes. We can visualize altering patterns of gene expression by manipulating regulatory DNA sequences. Exercise of either of these two genetic engineering approaches will reveal important biological principles and may well lead to important applications.
